Course Description

The Hazardous Material Safety Training Course is designed for those who must comply with the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR) and to help companies certify they have provided employees general awareness/familiarization training on the HMR as well as function-specific training on the key aspects of any employee’s job as they relate to offering hazardous materials for transport in commerce.

Course Objectives

  • To provide an understanding of the basic requirements of hazardous materials transportation safety regulations as specified in DOT regulations
  • To provide an understanding of the key aspects of function-specific training – identifying, classifying, packing, marking, labeling, placarding, and preparing shipping papers
  • To enable participants to recognize and identify hazardous materials, hazardous substances, and marine pollutants as indicated in 49 CFR 172.101
  • To help participants understand the key issues of the packaging regulations and know where to access the regulations specific to the requirements of their specific situation
  • To ensure participants understand the proper completion of shipping papers
  • To provide participants the knowledge to recognize and identify proper marking, labeling, and placarding
  • To teach participants where the emergency response information is located and how to use the Emergency Response Guidebook
  • To provide an understanding of the company Written Security Plan and elements of security training
